A Guide to Showing Gratitude

How to show gratitude: a simple guide

Sit in a quiet area at the end of the day.

Take a few moments to reflect on your day. Remember not only the positive people and experiences, but also the difficult or unpleasant ones.

Close your eyes and let the significant individuals or events come to you one at a time. Allow yourself to express gratitude for whatever gifts have touched your life today, one at a time, while reflecting on the positive events.Name any thankfulness you may have for each person or event silently, taking the time to open your heart and receive the depth and sustenance of that experience. Allow yourself to savour and thank each gift, allowing each image to come and go until you feel finished.

  • Begin by recalling any bad events from the day.
  • Concentrate on one particularly painful interaction or occurrence.
  • Try to contact that memory with gratitude now.
  • What do you see as you practise expressing gratitude for something painful?
  • What feelings arise? Is it making you happy or angry?
  • Is it easy or difficult?
  • Continue to focus on one image, thanking God that this person or event was a part of your day.
  • Be thankful for whatever lessons they taught you and anything they helped you notice about yourself.
  • Touch each memory with gratitude, one by one.

Finally, express gratitude for your life.

Take some time to express your gratitude for all the characteristics in your life. Practice being thankful for your breath, your body, the people who care for you, such as your husband, lover, children, and friends, as well as the colours of the day, your home, and your food. Review as many gifts as you can think of and then say a silent prayer of appreciation for everything you have and everything you have become.

Pay attention to what happens in your body while you practise giving appreciation. What feelings arise? You can do this meditation every day if you like. What do you observe at the conclusion of a week? We grow the seeds of abundance in the soil of our daily lives by practising gratitude.

As we do this meditation, we realise that living in an abundance setting starts at a very deep level and shows up in our daily lives on every level, too.
